Job Description


To effectively inspect and test product conformance for all labels produced to ensure that internal and external requirements are met.



  1. Perform Approval Roll Inspection and Testing on each order produced at Spear/Constantia Flexibles – Mason.
  2. Perform follow-up inspection and testing when problems arise either from Approval Roll Audits or issues where Quality Management or Production has identified a need for extended testing.
  3. Perform random audits of each press running.
  4. Perform Certification processing to ensure product conformance of the final packaged product.
  5. Perform color checks throughout the shift using the appropriate device and color quality management software (such as Color iQC, PQM & ColorCert) on samples at the required frequency dictated by the customer or internal requirements.
  6. Perform lab testing in regards to specific order requirements, including but not limited to the following:
    1. Pasteurization Testing
    2. AGR Line Simulator Testing
    3. Sutherland Rub Testing
    4. Any Special Testing required by customer, brand, or internal specifications.
  7. Perform lab testing for R&D, Quality Failure Investigation or Tech Services test requests when assigned.
  8. Record all test results as required in the Quality Management System.
  9. Assist in the quarantine of suspect product when issues arise during audit inspections.



  1. Assist in breakdown of job documentation (Color Standards, Approved Proofs, Press Retains, related Production Paperwork, and related QC Paperwork).
  2. Create and build job bags for each Manufacturing Order.
  3. Tracking and filing of all Quality- related documents.
  4. Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the Quality Lab area, materials and equipment, following the 5S requirements.
  5. Ensure that Food Safety Policies and practices are followed and understood.

Job Requirements

The requirements for the job are as follows:

  • Ability to work 12 hour, night shift position
  • Minimum high school or technical school education, or equivalent.
  • Ability to read measurement devices such as rulers, calipers, micrometers, etc.
  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately under high mental stress conditions.
  • Good attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Some computer competency and the ability to learn new software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to use email for communication.
  • Job involves standing, walking, bending and lifting during Lab testing & Certification activities for at least 75% of the working time.
  • Job involves lifting up to 40 pounds occasionally without assistance; and pushing and pulling up to 150 pounds with appropriate equipment.
  • Must be willing to work overtime as warranted.
