Job Description



Responsible for the daily operation of the production department including equipment, products, processes, and personnel. The primary focus of the position is the meet the companies objectives in safety, quality, productivity, and on time delivery through oversight and control of the day to day operation of process, equipment, and workforce.




  1. Create a work environment that motivates and empowers employees to meet and exceed daily expectations for productivity, quality, waste, housekeeping, and safety.
  2. Lead day-to-day effort to maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, etc. and the implications on worker safety, emissions, and hazardous waste.
  3. Ensure that Food Safety policies and practices are followed and understood.
  4. Primary authority for the supervision of hourly employees with respect to the day to day effort to work safe, and produce a quality product as efficiently as possible.
  5. Sign off on product approvals and provide Business System authorization as needed.
  6. Be the primary resource for daily troubleshooting
  7. Work with Business Unit Leads to communicate and meet schedule requirements.    
  8. Other duties as assigned to advance the mission of Spear.



    1. Work with the business unit leads to identify opportunities for improvement with equipment, process, and personnel.
    2. Communicate and provide insight to the business unit leads on employee performance.
    3. Maintain functional cross training capabilities from positions and fill in where required.
    4. Shift Emergency Coordinator for safety and environmental concerns.

Job Requirements


  1. Minimum of 2 years demonstrated supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  2. Minimum of two years of experience in manufacturing environment with exposure to prepress, printing, and/or finishing.
  3. Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field preferred.
  4. Ability to serve as a Lean Six Sigma process owner and/or team member.
  5. Ability to effectively communicate to various internal and external audiences in both person and various electronic media.
  6. Ability to manage time and work effectively with minimal supervision.
  7. Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  8. Ability to work with internal and external individuals, demonstrating a high level of professionalism.
  9. Ability to use and a working knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Visio, Publisher, and Explorer).
  10. Highly organized and detail oriented.
  11. Enthusiasm for learning and personal growth.
  12. Good interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.





Description of Training:

Must successfully complete training in pesticide usage within one (1) month after the date of appointment to this position and will not work in unsupervised situations until these training requirements have been met. Training will be part of the EHS New Employee training.


Must be trained on the following: Chemical control, outdoor and indoor usage requirements, pesticide labeling, purchase of pesticides, required PPE and understand and follow pesticide procedures and cleanup.


All operators receive on-the-job training in pesticide usage by Facilities Manager or area Supervisor. Annual refresher training will be conducted in classroom setting.
