Position:             Prepress Technology Manager

Location:             Based out of Napa, but supports all NA W&S Plants

Department:      Prepress

Reports To:        Director Customer Service & Quality, dotted line to Director Global Graphics Process Engineering & Systems.

Purpose: The Prepress Technology Manager is responsible to ensure that all software and hardware systems related to Prepress (graphics, tooling, screens) for the North American Wine & Spirits Division are operating smoothly and are continually improved to meet our changing customer and technology needs.

Primary Responsibilities

 

  1. Metrics: Responsible for the uptime of Prepress related systems in addition to a completed projects register.
  2. Works with Prepress Managers, Customer Service Manager, Production/Plant Managers, and global graphics team as required to ensure new and existing improvement projects are planned and executed in an efficient manner.
  3. Helps streamline and automate graphic / print processes using Esko Automation Engine, scripting, and other prepress tools.
  4. Recommend and participate in continuous improvement projects as appropriate.
  5. Support customer projects as required (Webcenter, FTP, Art transfer, Proof template changes, etc.)
  6. Conducts regular audits for color management systems and processes. Recommends and takes corrective actions as appropriate.
  7. Helps to scope out and define project plans in coordination with Prepress Managers and other Leads.
  8. Conducts research with suppliers and provides reports and recommendations.
  9. Generates monthly report (monthly activities and ongoing projects list). Maintains status report/matrix of all systems including legacy databases.
  10. Supports activities of the Prepress Department Managers as required.
  11. Benchmarking Prepress systems and workflows with other sites.
  12. Updates and upgrades: Interfaces with suppliers and other Prepress and/or Technology leaders to ensure all systems are receiving updates and upgrades as required. Responsible to plan and budget these updates with minimal impact to production.
  13. Works closely with global team to support existing workflows and established best practice. Fill in the natural IT “gaps” between the IT group and department needs.
  14. Monitors systems and interfaces with IT department to ensure uptime goals are being met.
  15. Helps to digitally integrate prepress with other operations system such as AVT.
  16. Continually increase skills in prepress systems and business software platforms (Radius, LabelTraxx, HP Print OS or other).
  17. Continually lead efforts to increase workflow efficiencies.
  18. Enthusiastically embrace going to ESKO or other enrichment conferences or training.
  19. Training and education of prepress teams with new software, hardware, and workflow.
  20. Participates on Global Best Practices Team.  
  21. Interfaces with customers as required to promote our systems or design and define custom interfaces. Develops presentations, movies, or other materials aimed at selling our vision.
  22. Interfaces with sales and marketing resources as required to advance and promote our customer facing and prepress related technology.
  23. Defines, scopes, and helps to justify capital projects.

Job Requirements

BACKGROUND SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Education and Training - Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years Printing Industry experience.
  • Computer Skills –Highly Proficient in Adobe CS, Esko Automation Engine, and other related Prepress programs. Beginner / intermediate level Javascript and SQL skills. Literate in Microsoft Office or the equivalent, IT networking concepts, and HP Indigo workflows.
  • Language Ability - Articulate, clear, persuasive and passionate in the spoken and written word.
  • Physical Demands - Move about in offices and plants. Travel is expected.
  • QualificationsTechnological expertise in Prepress and other related IT programs/hardware.
  • Reasoning Ability - Rational, logical, fact-driven decision making. Read and analyze production and productivity documents.
  • Teamwork - Ability to work in an environment that encourages teamwork, participation, creativity, openness, honesty and mutual respect.
  • Math Ability - College level math, including statistical analysis.
  • Leadership Abilities - Lead, train, and develop others. Relate to people at all levels of the organization, including diverse cultures.
