Job Description

Position Objective: To visually inspect for defects in printed roll material on a high speed machine to prepare finished product for shipment.

General Duties:

  1. Perform duties as directed by Finishing/Slitting Leader
  2. Set up and operate slitting or finishing machinery according to order specifications.
  3. Thread web with printed roll through finishing machinery
  4. Visually inspect for obvious defects
  5. Performs detailed visual inspection when necessary to determine quality of product where limits are not clearly defined
  6. Removes defects and splices acceptable material back together
  7. Notifies shift leader when inspection data exceeds acceptable limits or when major incidents of poor quality occur
  8. Set up and run die cutter's and doctor machines (both standard and table top) according to order specifications
  9. Support procedures and practices (where applicable) as outlined in the Quality Manual in support of ISO 9001.                   
  10. Comply with good manufacturing practices to support standards outlined in ISO 22000, PAS 223, and the Employee Handbook.
  11. Ensure food safety policies and practices are followed and understood.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Assemble and label boxes with identification and sample label and package all product per customer specifications.
  2. Cut cores according to order specifications
  3. Ensure following shift has a supply of boxes and cores according to order specifications
  4. Operate forklift and pallet jack to move rolls and pallets
  5. Maintain a clean area around equipment and bench at all times
  6. Follow all safety rules and procedures


Job Requirements


  • High school or technical school education, or equivalent, with emphasis on mathematics.
  • Dexterity and precision required to operate equipment.
  • ual acuity necessary to distinguish possible product defects.
  • Properly handles, identifies, and labels hazardous waste in compliance with all rules and regulations.
  • Completes annual training in hazardous waste orientation including "right to know."
  • Requires understanding and application of all safety rules and regulations, procedures including personal protective equipment and safe manufacturing practices.
  • Operate tow motor, pallet jack, fork truck as needed.
  • Attends training seminars as necessary.
  • Assists other production staff as required.
  • Works otating and/or non-traditional work schedule.  


Work Environment:

Work Conditions: Work performed in the plant is in areas near operating equipment and chemical usage; appropriate training, including "right to know" training, is provided. Atmosphere may contain fumes, odors, dust, etc. Noise levels fluctuate according to proximity of operating equipment. Suitable safety equipment is provided and must be used accordingly to specific PPE requirements.

Physical Demands: Heavy work requires exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move/lift objects. Visual acuity and color perception necessary to distinguish color shades. Keying data into computer requires repetitive hand/wrist motion.
