Title:Prepress Technician


Department:Art Department 


Reports to:Prepress Manager in San Luis Obispo, California


As part of the Wine and Spirits arm of Multi-Color Corporation, we continue to lead the printing industry through a commitment to World's Best Premium Wine and Spirit Label Solutions. Located in premium wine producing regions around the world, MCC proudly supports the global wine and spirits industries. We are currently seeking a Prepress Technician for our San Luis Obispo plant.


Primary Responsibilities:



• Preflight

Uses Adobe CC in conjunction with Esko and in-house software to check incoming files for defects and printability.



• Proofing / Label Assembly

Uses Adobe CC in conjunction with Esko and in-house software to create proofs for customers and color separations for production.



• Color Correction

Uses Adobe CC in conjunction with GMG and in-house software to perform CMYK color matching.



• Stepping and Job Assembly

Uses Adobe CC in conjunction with Esko and in-house software to create press-sheet layouts for press and tooling to be sent to various vendors.



• Job Log Systems

Record time and materials using in-house system


Secondary Responsibilities



• Platemaking

Uses in-house equipment to make offset, flexo and letterpress plates and deliver materials to production.



• Screenmaking

Uses in-house equipment to make silk-screens and deliver materials to production.


Technical Skills Required:


• Expert level: Mac OS proficiencies


• Experienced/Expert level: Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop


• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office


• Understanding of fonts and color theory


• Proficient in Flexographic, Offset and Digital label printing industry technology and terminology


• Working knowledge of trapping specifications for printing


• Working knowledge of ESKO software preferred (Not required)


• Understanding of label production tooling (i.e. foil, embossing, flexo plates, and cutting dies needed for label production)
