Position Objective:

The primary responsibility of the Order Technician will be to communicate schedule changes to production and ensure jobs are shipped out in accordance with the agreed upon ship dates. In this role, you will also serve as a liaison between the floor and the hub and will assist the scheduler in moving sales orders and job folders to the correct departments. Additionally, you will lead and assist in organizing transfer work to and from the plant.

Role and Responsibilities:

Communication Controller

  • Be a liaison between production and scheduling to get the schedule set for the day 
  • Adjust work orders to match production changes asked by the production floor
    • Remove or add work centers
  • Communicate changes to the floor for “break in orders” to be sure they are ready for press when needed and the work moves smoothly to the next department.

Master Estimates (Approved method of manufacturing an item or group of items)

  • Create master estimates for repeat items or product types
  • Add any relevant notes that are needed each time produced
  • Make updates to master estimates as needed

Production Job (through hub order processing)

  • Create production job using either a sales or master estimate as the basis
  • Maximize make ready efficiencies on press by combining like items into one production run using taking following into consideration:
  • New vs. repeat item
  • Customer required dates
  • Sales Order Item Coating Sequence Report
  • Based on knowledge of product and equipment, create production job with proper work centers and layout
  • Add any relevant notes that are needed for this production run
  • Review works instructions for completeness and accuracy
  • Create job jacket for the production job and forward to plate dept.

Change Orders

  • Receive change order request from customer service
  • Makes the required change in the product estimate and reconfirms the production job (pushes change to purchasing and scheduling)
  • Reserve the sales order change to the update production job
  • Advise Customer Service Rep that change has been completed

Back Orders

  • All backorders receive a new job number
  • This individual is involved in the creation of the back order and any specific notes associated with it

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Requires a high school diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in scheduling/estimating in the print industry strongly preferred. 
  • Must have manufacturing experience. 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, & Excel. 
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
  • Must have strong interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills, and be able to effectively communicate with others.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas in writing so others will understand. Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

Physical Demands:

Quiet conditions; may encounter moderate noise when in manufacturing environment and will be required to wear hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment while performing duties in a manufacturing setting.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods, and use hands and fingers for writing/keyboarding/mousing.  Some standing, walking and lifting and/or moving up to 20 lbs. may be required. 

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, ability to adjust focus, and color differentiation, along with ability to view computer screen for extended periods of time.
