This opportunity as a Buyer with the MCC Algoma Maintenance department offers challenging and rewarding work.The position is ideal for someone with experience in purchasing within a manufacturing setting and proficiency in various computer systems. This position offers first shift hours, full time benefits, paid holiday, vacation, and more.  

Role and Responsibilities:


Replenish personal protective equipment and regular use items in designated areas

Issue PO’s to appropriate vendors

Operate Maintenance work order platform

Reconcile all invoicing and purchasing card transaction that are generated

Maintain Stock Room applying Lean Principles.

Maintain applicable Inventory levels within Stock Room

Aggressively source parts and consumables through Vendor network work as well as collaborating with third party contractor

Attend daily Maintenance Meetings

Work in a Team driven environment

Investigate and/or vet pottential suppliers to determine if they meet the specifications

Assure commodity is delivered on schedule at the negotiated price

Maintain control of documents and orders to assure accurate record retention  
Monitor inventories to minimize aging  and make suggestions on purchasing decisions. 

Manage product changes including transitions to alternatives

A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in purchasing in a manufacturing environment is preferred. 

Preferred Skills:
General Lean knowledge and experience 
Strong written/verbal interpersonal and communication skills.  Must be able to read, write, and comprehend instructions and SOPs.  Must be able to effectively present information to customers, clients and other employees of the organization

Ability to understand and interpret contract documents, drawings, specifications, scope of work and project schedule.

Ability to manage multiple tasks in an organized manner.

Shows initiative.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume and distance.

Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Ability to make sound judgment decisions with integrity.

 Ability to work as a member of a team, follows directions, and receives constructive criticism.  

Physical and/or mental demands:
While preforming the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to:

Wear hearing, foot, eye and/or other personal protective equipment while in a manufacturing setting stand,walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb or balance

Use hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or clasp; reach with hands and arms; occasionally work  in close quarters

Vertically lift or horizontally transfer objects up to 50 pounds

Vision abilities include – close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, ability to distinguish color variations, and ability to adjust focus

Medium to loud noise environment

Work flexible/varying schedules and hours as needed

Work overtime as required by workload and customer mandated deadlines
